Jesus leads, we move.

We see the devastating reality of extreme child poverty and want to respond as Jesus would.

For more than 70 years, Compassion has partnered with local churches, amplifying their work to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name.

As children receive practical support and learn of Jesus’ love for them, lives are changed, families are strengthened, communities are transformed, and the impact continues for generations.

It all starts when we follow Jesus’ lead to move with compassion.

Meet Miracle

This is Miracle. You can see she’s a loved, safe, and thriving toddler. But she’s called Miracle for a reason.

Mum, Gladys, vividly remembers the evening her son Enoch ran to her for help: he’d found a baby abandoned in a ditch. Mother and son rushed to help – shaking but determined, Gladys pulled the tiny baby out of the water. “I held her close and took her to the police, but they told us, ‘We can’t keep her. Take her back.’

“I knew God had allowed her to survive. She had no mother, no father. I said, ‘Let me take care of this child.’ Perhaps God had chosen me.”

Despite having little to spare, the family didn’t hesitate to adopt her as their own. They named her Miracle. Their local church’s Compassion project became a lifeline. “The milk and healthcare we receive are a huge relief. Everyone at church supports us.”

When Miracle was sponsored, Gladys says, “We were so happy. We receive letters, clothes, and gifts. She loves the other children at the Compassion project.”

Your generosity can surround a child, like Miracle, with the love and support they need to thrive.

Meet Richmond

I’m Richmond. My father was murdered when I was eight, and from then, nothing was the same. Our landlord evicted us, and poverty took hold. I’ll never forget the moment my mother said we couldn’t afford food. At times like this poverty speaks to you – it tells you that you’re worthless.

But God speaks too.

Compassion staff from our local church heard about us and offered support. When I learned I had a sponsor, the amount of dancing that filled our home was beyond description. My sponsor began to write to me and I felt known, I felt connected – they helped me become a child again.

Through Compassion’s programme, I received food, education, and medical care. More importantly, I encountered Christ. At 14, I gave my life to Jesus. My family followed, even my mother, who once blamed God for our suffering.

Today, I lead the Pastors Discipleship Network, equipping tens of thousands of pastors across Africa. None of this happened by accident. It started with prayer. What is God calling you to do?
